Community Conversation Pieces

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not,” — Dr. Seuss’s “The Lorax.”

The Community Conversation Pieces Project helps to remind city parks and recreation officials to meet people where they are on city forestry issues — which may not always be at open houses, City Council, advisory board or even neighborhood organization meetings.

The Community Conversation Pieces Project was started by Jess Gieseke, a member of the Lincoln Community Forestry Board. The art pieces have been placed in right of ways where trees once stood, not as a demand for any action, but to get conversations started between neighbors.

By placing these pieces in right of ways where residents might like work to be done, residents are invited to engage with the City’s forestry program, their elected officials, parks and recreation employees, and most importantly, their neighbors and community.
